Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to achieve final poker table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He won a large pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest players in the world. While wagering on online poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He regularly competes in the 200/400 NL max buy in of $40, 000. Hansen frequently buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all-in. I accept that Gus is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is flat broke, he has absolutely no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy-in.

Buying in for the min takes a majority of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be 1 of the greatest players in the world but he cannot buy in for the full amount. I believe television can alter our view of the real world at times. The best players anywhere in the world could be guys you have will not have heard of before. Gus can be found competing in online poker on Full Tilt. He normally participates in high stakes omaha/8 and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his abilities in cash rounds?
